Owning a home undoubtedly comes with the additional task of employing a security service in Dhaka. While the Eid holidays are a matter of great enthusiasm in our country, one recurrent theme of Eid is the huge fanfare associated with it. When we go home during the long Eid holidays, many of us are worried about how to keep our home safe and secure during this time. While there are many home security services in Dhaka, you should also think of other precautions you can take prior to leaving for your hometown. Homes, shops and business premises should all be secured appropriately before you leave for the long Eid holidays.
First & foremost, when you start planning to leave for your Eid holidays, you should ideally start securing your home, office or shop at the same time. Buy good locks (Smart or otherwise). Securely lock all external windows, doors and garages to prevent any possible theft while you are away. If you have neighbors you are close with, especially in an apartment complex, you could ask them to keep an eye out for any intruders or suspicious activity while you are away. You should also check all Smart locks and security systems to make sure that they are in working order.
As it is currently monsoon, it is a great idea to prepare your home/ office for the elements. Cover any furniture or items in balconies with plastic or polyethylene sheets, and place plastic-covered shutters to prevent your verandah or patio from getting wet. Make sure all doors and windows are properly locked to keep your home from getting damp or any other weather-related damage. Something else that must be done is that any immediate repairs needed around the house must be taken care of before you leave.
A key component of security that is often overlooked is electricity, in particular, electrical appliances. Make sure you check every room to ensure that all switches have been turned off, and all plug points have been unplugged. Continuing in the same theme, gas lines should also be unplugged- this will save you from any potential major hazards in case of gas leaks that might occur by chance.
Do a quick sweep of your fridge to clean out any food that could spoil or rot while you are away. Not only will this help you make room for the meat from Qurbani, but it will also mean that you have a clean fridge to come back home to after the holidays; that you can then freshly restock as you need. You should also try to minimize the spawning of pests like flies, cockroaches and ants–clean all surfaces like tables, countertops etc to get rid of food crumbs and remnants on time. If you are leaving any valuables in an empty house, keep them stowed away in a safe or vault to prevent any accidents from taking place.
Remember, a clean home/ office space is where the surroundings feel the safest and most secure–and leaving your home or office in tip-top condition prior to leaving for Eid will allow you to enjoy an amazing time, and get back to a truly comfortable space all on your own.
