Bangladesh is a country known for its temperate weather. Even with the worldwide climate change that is affecting us, winters here tend to be drier and cooler than the other seasons – with little to no rainfall at all. This presents a challenge for swimming pool owners. The cooler temperatures can still affect the swimming pool’s condition, as well as the equipment surrounding it. However, maintaining a swimming pool during this season need not be such a scary and challenging task. If you take the correct approach, you will easily be able to ensure the safety, cleanliness and readiness of your pool come Spring. Find out from today’s blog how to care for your pool all throughout Winter.
1. Check Water Quality Regularly
Although high usage in summer means that pools need regular cleaning, pool water can become contaminated even in winter. While algae growth might slow down at this time, debris does not stop falling into the pool. Leaves, twigs, and dust can also gather and make the water look dirty & unappealing.
If you want to have a clean pool with the least effort, try to skim the surface of the water regularly. A fine-mesh skimming net can be used to remove debris. You should also hire professionals to check the water’s pH levels every month and adjust the chemicals as and if needed. The proper balance of chlorine and pH is necessary to maintain safety & cleanliness of the water. You also need to regularly check the pool’s filtration system to make sure it is still working in winter. Running the pool’s filter for a few hours every day will help maintain the water at optimal levels.
3. Cover the Pool’s Surface
One of the major things that you need to do to prepare your home for winter is to cover the surface of your pool. Having a swimming pool with a well-fitted cover can help prevent debris from falling into the water and keeps the temperature steady at a constant level. You will also save yourself time and effort, as moving forward your pool will need even less maintenance than it needs now.
The cover for your pool must be strong and durable enough to withstand rain, wind, and even the occasional cold wave. Replace your pool cover before winter if it is in need of repairs. Since we are all aiming to go towards a sustainable future, you should consider using a cover made of environmentally-friendly materials, to help improve our planet’s health.
4. Protect the Machinery
Machinery or equipment for the pool, like heaters, filters, and pumps can be ruined by the temperamental colder weather here in Bangladesh. Unless you plan to use the pool during winter, there is no reason to put the pool in hibernation, so to speak. The pump, filter and heater should all be disconnected and drained to prevent any possible damage from affecting these in any adverse way.
If at any point in time, the temperatures drop to 10 degrees Celsius or less, then you should wrap your heaters and pumps with insulation or keep them in storage indoors to prevent them from being damaged. Taking these small steps will help you ensure that your pool’s longevity remains protected.
5. Heater for Pool Protection
If you live in an area of Bangladesh where the temperatures drop drastically during winter, you might want to invest in a good pool heater. This could be especially amazing if you are planning on enjoying the pool during the colder months, either for parties or simply to extend the swimming season. Getting a pool heater could keep the pool’s temperatures stable, allowing damage from extreme cold conditions not to harm the pool. These days, there are many energy-efficient heaters on the market – ones that are solar-powered, and could provide savings in cost combined with environmental benefits.
No matter what kind of weather it is out there, maintaining a swimming pool requires proper care and regular foresight. The effort you spend on your swimming pool’s maintenance will allow you to make sure that it is an inviting site to refresh during the sticky heat of summer. The holistic approach will include a deeper look at the structure, surrounding equipment, and the water to make sure it is running at its optimal levels. Taking care of your pool’s health now will allow you to enjoy it for many years ahead.
